Newborn Baby Checklist Ghana: Everything You Need Before Baby Arrives

Preparing for a newborn is exciting — and a little overwhelming. This checklist is written for Ghana's climate and lifestyle, so you buy what you need and skip what you don't.

- 2 light cardigans for air-conditioned rooms
- Receiving blankets and swaddles
- Hats for sun protection
Feeding

- Changing mat and a roomy diaper bag
Bath time
- Baby bath tub
- Soft hooded towels and washcloths
- Gentle baby wash and lotion
- Soft brush, comb and baby nail clippers
Sleeping
- Cot or crib with a firm, flat mattress
- Fitted sheets (no pillows, bumpers or loose bedding for young babies)
- Mosquito net — essential in Ghana
Out and about
- Rear-facing infant car seat — even for the ride home from hospital
- Stroller or travel system
- Baby carrier or wrap
What you can skip
Baby shoes for newborns, wipe warmers and too many newborn-size outfits — babies outgrow them in weeks.
